We have a DL called Sales Team that had one user as owner. She was able to make changes to the list (add or remove users from the list). She is no longer handling that department anymore and I changed the owner to the new person. When the new person tries to apply the new changes to the DL she gets this error message: "Changes to the distrobution list membership could not be saved. You do not have sufficiant permission to perform this operation on this object". She is the owner of this DL as much as I can tell. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Sean

It's a permissions problem - and it's getting a bit outside my league - but here's my understanding.

If a DL owner is assigned at the time of creating the DL, there are inherited permissions and everything works OK.

However, if you need to assign/change a DL owner after the DL has been created you (ie the exchange administrator) must have the Modify Permissions right assigned - or it just doesn't work when the new owner tries to do anything.

The Modify Permissions right is granted only to administrators who have the Permissions Admin. role (that is, an administrator who has the Admin. role does not have the "right" to modify permissions).

You can just add the Modify Permissions right to yourself or the group of people who administer exchange and I believe this will also then work.

I'm not in front of a pc with Exchange Admin at the moment so can't go into detail with the steps involved, but I hope this helps some.

As I said, a bit outside my league, but that's my understanding. We had the same problem several months back and it took a while to get to the bottom of it - but now that we have added the Modify Permissions right (via Exchange Admin) to the NT group who comprise our Exchange Administrators - all is OK.

Good luck
