I cannot recall when this started or how it came about...but everytime a user starts Win98 unit, she gets the Distributed Com Properties screen......I checked startup and nothing is there...any suggestions would be well appreciated .... for the most part she cancels out and continues ok....

Go to Start, Run in the box type MSCONFIG and see if the program is being started from there. If it is uncheck the box and reboot.

thanks... I checked like suggested and not site of that app running in msconfig.....

I had this a while back with a clients computer. It had something to do with the LAN setup panel. (There was no LAN, but nephew set one up anyway) I had to delete the whole TCP/IP setup and re-install it. There may have been an easier way, but after a couple of hours - just to find it - I said the heck with it!

Hello johndan,

Click out the control panel|network. Check out the I/O control page. What is the checkbox being checked, shared level or user level? If it is user level, change it to shared level. See if it corrects the problem.
