Hi guys!
I have a report in which i have cross tab sub-report, in the main report(form frame) student_no, last_name are displayed and the report is currently sorted by student number. The crosstab sub-report has transcript information related to the student. Some students might have transcript information and some might not have.
The relation between the transcript information and the main query is student nubmer. If the main report is sorted by "studentnumber" the transcript information related to that student is perfectly shown in the crosstab. If the information is sorted by "lastname" I got the record which does'nt have transcript information and inturn my crosstab template is not created, due to which the subsequent records even though have transcript data are not displayed in the crosstab frame. What to do?

Could someone help me out here!

Thanks in advance.

GUXEBY,

I think your dilemma is this: ID'as are truly unique, but you want the sort order to show by name, which is more 'natural'. There may be duplicate names (John Smith), so you don't wan't to use the name for the main query to sub-query linkage.

Try creating a "synthetic" key in Impromptu using the Name + '-' + ID (use number-to string or char if this in a number). Sort on this key and use it to link to the sub report crosstab. In the Main report just show the name. If there are two people with the same name they should show up on different pages without a problem.

Hello,

I doubt if you have understood my problem, I do not have any issue with duplicate names. Can you give me your contact-no so that i can directly speak to you.

Thanks,

GUXEBY,

Check my profile (click on my name at the top of this post: griffindm) and send me an email with your number and I'll get back to you. Posting phone numbers in an open forum is ill-advised.
