Problem with Count in Impromptu/IWR

Hi

I have a count(ID) in the Header of a imr. This works fine, and I get 73 which is correct. But after I publish the report, in IWR, the count shows as 21. How can the count be different when published?

The 21 is what I would have got in the imr had I used
count (distinct ID)

I checked to make sure I am using the right catalog etc.

Is there a setting or something I am missing either in IWR or Impromptu? I have never had this problem before.

Really grateful if someone can point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Remember, IWR and Impromptu are technically two separate programs. What might be happening is:
Impromptu is giving you a count of detail records that actually exist behind the data, even though only 21 are showing on your report.
IWR is giving a count of records that actually show on the report.

There seems to be some hinky things with grouping and counts in Impromptu. Although you've grouped at a certain level, and are now doing a count, Impromptu still counts all the distinct records. The way to verify this is to check the "Eliminate Duplicate Records" box in the query window of the Impromptu report. Your count should now be 21.
The way to get you IWR report to show the correct count is to count a unique field.
Our standard is a record count field in every table. This field can always be used to sum for a record count.

Thanks DoubleD

Actually, I don't want a unique count. The imr has the right count ie. 73. For this particular report I want to count the duplicates also (so the 73 is correct). The problem is that the IWR is taking it as a distinct count.
Still trying to get this worked out.

Do let me know if you have any other suf=ggestions.

Thanks

Is there a field that is unique for all your records? If so, do a count on that field instead of the ID field you're currently using. I don't know of any way IWR could exclude records in that instance. Even if it counts distinct, it would give you an accurate count.
