problem with backup

hi

my boss has gone on holiday and has left me in charge, unfortunately I canot solve a problem, we have a linux bos with tapeware 7.0 sp5c dont know what kernel it is but its redhat9 anyway a job that is supposed to run on friday is stuck saying mounting media 0% and has been since friday 8:30pm and still is today, my question how do I restart the services in linux?, if they can be restarted at all of course.

login as root on the linux machine type

cd /etc/init.d
ls -l

look for something named tapeware etc..
then write down the name then type

service nameofservicegoeshere restart
