Problem with ASP server.mappath()

I've used Mappath for years no problems. I'll takes some stabs in the dark and see if that helps out.
function server.mappath() looks like javascript, while I use this less frequently (I use mostly PerlScript) it works much the same.
As far as I have ever used the function could only ever possibly work on the server side. If the JavaScript is run client side it woulfd either return nothing or fail (I've never tried).
Next - I have ALWAYS passed a minimum parameter of "/" to the routine. It may be assumed but I do it anyway.
