hi all,

for almost three weeks our ARCserve 9.01 has been backup up our remote exchange server without any major problems.

As of yesterday, i am no longer able to view any mailboxes when I click on bricklevel to open. Instead, ARCserve manager hangs.

I logged on to the remote server to configure the exchange agent, with the credentials of the backup-service account, and received no error message.

After reconfiguring the remote exchange server, i logged onto the backup server again, restarted every ARCserve service, without any improvement.

What on earth is causing this, and how can I troubleshoot it???

Any hints are deeply appreciated... :-S (confused smiley)

Cheers

I had this problem, amongst others, and after alot of reading and Agent re-installations of Exchange, I figured out it was really stupid.

- Make sure your Computer Browser service is running on your Exchange AND Arcserve machines. (if it's not the same).

"In space, nobody can hear you click..."

Well, I too have figured out this is really stupid and - even worse - my credibility is sufferung because of a product that does not do what it's supposed to, and did before.

Re. your comment: yes, the Computer Browsers are running on both machines.

Another thing that surprised me this morning when checking ARCserve, was that an error message popped up telling me that one or more ARCserve services were not running and if i would like to start it/them.

The interessting part is: the nightly scheduled backup was done (without bricklevel this time) and the tape engine was not running any more.

My problems are still the same: why was i able to do a bricklevel backup until this week, and why did the tape enginge service simply stop working???

I need some troubleshooting tools quick... before i'm going mad ;-)

Cheers

Hi
There are more than one problem with Arcserve.
1- regards the tape Engine get stoppted you may have a database corruption.
Try to run DBcheck to see if you have a database problem
check the link on how to do it

2-Are there any errors appear in Activity log

3- put the Exchange agent Brick level in Debug
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\DSAagent\dbaexch2

change the value to 3

4-run again brick level backup
5-check if there is any error in the log file dbaexch2.log in exchange agent path .
