The job I have been working on has a number of graphics in Adobe Illustrator format.

I import them into PageMaker 7 where the backgrounds are transparent in the place holders.

Usually they appear transparent in my PDFs too.

But on one page the AI files are apearing with a white background around them, while the ones on another page in the same document do not.

Any Ideas?

Mike

Are the AI files on the ok page the same files as the ones on the page where you have a problem? How exactly are you contructing your PDF file? Ahhhhh, I see you have a machine that goes Bing!

More to the point, what version of Illustrator and Acrobat are you using? Do you know if all the Illustrator files where created using the same version? There are some issues with transparency not being supported in Pagemaker 7 depending on the version of Illustrator. I think the problem version is 9.0. - I'll have a look into it. Ahhhhh, I see you have a machine that goes Bing!

I'm creating the files in PageMaker after setting the preferences in Distiller.
All the same setting.

All art was created in AI 8.

I'm using Acrobat 5 Lite.

Since I posted this I replaced the AI files that didn't work with outlined tiff files with clipping paths created in Photoshop and finished the job but I have no Idea why the some of the AI files worked and others didn't they were all created with in a few days of each other in the same way.

It's always been getting the stuff to be transparent in PageMaker that was a problem before.

It's got me stumped - the only problems with transparency that I am aware of are AI files used in Pagemaker, or AI files used in Acrobat older than v5.0. Acro 5 should support transparency, so it's a bit of a mystery..... Ahhhhh, I see you have a machine that goes Bing!
