Hi,

I have an intel print server which came from a remote site and has a different IP addressing scheme than we use. I have changed my IP address to match the network address of the print server. I can telnet on but cannot make changes to the print server and it will not allow me to change it using the Intel Print server manager tool.

I remember something about "forcing" an IP address onto a machine like this using an ARP or RARP command from the command line, but am currently at a loss.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

I remember doing this when getting my APC UPS network monitor card on-line. If I'm not mistaken I believe it's something like this......

arp -s 192.168.1.50 00-aa-00-62-c6-09

of course plugging in the ip address and print server physical address.

I've never done this after the APC experience but that was how they had me program the network card since it had no network settins at all. I don't know if it will work for you in this incident but it can't hurt. david e

Thanks, but all its done is put an entry in my ARP table and I still cant ping the device. Any other ideas?

What is the model number of the print server?

You say you can telnet to the box will it not allow you to make chages due to a password problem? I'm more familure with HP JetDirect systems than Intel but they should be all the same. I know this is a round about way to do this but it could work. Intel has instructions on Flashing the server, this will reset it back to Factory Specs. HP has a reset option for it's flash, I guess this Inetl model does not have that option.

I found the information here....

Sorry I can't be of any more help. I'm sure the ARP command only works if the system does not have an IP Address already like the WebSNMP card that I got with my APC. david e

Many thanks. I attempted to upgrade the flash but it kept failing. Looks like a faulty piece of kit.

Thanks for all your help

Steve
