I'm currently having problems doing the practise from the 70-293 book chapter 7 lesson 3 exercise 1 (page 7-42 in the MOC book).
When I click "Finish" in the wizard (step 11) it runs through the creating the cluster process. I get ticks against "Reanalysing Cluster", "Configure cluster services" and "Configure resource types" but have a yellow exclamation mark against Configure resources.
Expanding this, I have yellow exclamation marks against:
"Resource: Cluster IP address failed. Check event log. Dependent resources may fail too" and "Resource: Cluster Name went offline. Dependent resources may fail too"
I've looked in the event log and apart from those messages from the cluster services saying that it failed to bring those services online or offline, the only error message is
"Cluster network 'Local Area Connection' is down. None of the available nodes can communicate using this network. If the condition persists, check for failures in any network components to which the nodes are connected such as hubs, switches, or bridges. Next, check the cables connecting the nodes to the network. Finally, check for hardware or software errors in the adapters that attach the nodes to the network." -this is because the real network card in my PC is not connected to anything at the moment (it has an APIPA ip address); I've got two connections using the loopback adapter "LAN Connection" on 192.168.0.1 and "WAN Connection" on 10.0.0.1.
After this I can connect to it via cluster manager using the name "." but not "cluster" In cluster manager. Under Active Resources it shows Cluster IP address as failed and Cluster name as offline but if I try and start either of these manually neither work.
The Local Quorum is online and working.
Has anybody any ideas what I need to do to get this working? I'm running the supplied 180 day trial of Win2003 Server Enterprise edition.
