I am currently running SCO UNIX 5.0.6 on an IBM Netfinity 5600. I have recently added a second CPU. Both processors are 933 Pentium III xeon’s

I successfully added the SCO SMP software and linked the second processor into the kernel. Everything seems to be fine but with out warning the system Freezes/locks up. There appears to be no warnings and no error messages that appear in the syslog.

When I boot to Unix.Old the system seems to be stable.

Any ideas

Have you uninstalled any patch before the installation of the SMP software ?

Hope This Help
PH.

I had the same problem because the patches weren't rolled back prior to the installation. Here's a cut and paste from my notes.
N
ote:
On EXISTING Servers you must roll back all the existing Patches FIRST.
On NEW Servers complete the base installation. *Do NOT reboot between steps, load all Patches / Supplements first or the Software Manager may hang.

- Install the SMP package from the SCO Install CD first! (This may prompt for SMP License Numbers)

- Install the Supplements / Patches, paying attention to INSTALL FIRST!

- License the SMP through License Manager if not done earlier.

Useful Commands:
uname –X
/etc/brand -L
/usr/bin/customquery swconfig | grep -i multi
/etc/cpuonoff -c
