Problem while converting video files

I am having problem while converting video file
format let say when i try to convert Divx into
DVD (i use nero for this purpose) my system stuck
during this process this happens only when i try
to convert video file with any audi video converter
i suspect maybe its because of ram i changed the RAM
but it did not solve the problem. i would appreciate
any help regarding this.

What hardware do you have? CPU type & speed, amount of ram etc.
It could be that the hardware isn't up to the job or other software running in the background that is slowing things down.
