I had the same problem (And a dozen more)

Thats all the advice i can give you ...

Sorry .....

coatl,

did you uninstall the old modem drivers before installing the Intel modem? If not, it is possible that you are having the two drivers contend over incoming data. You need to make sure that you have removed both the modem driver itself, and the WAV device driver for the other modem (if it had one).

If you go to Control Panel, System and select the Device Manager tab, then you can delete all of the modems (including the Intel), and then select the Sound stuff and delete any WAV device drivers, you will effectively delete all of the old drivers that could potentially conflict. I know that the Device manager may claim that there are no conflicting devices, but the tests are for hardware and memory addressing conflicts.

When you restart your system, it should prompt you to reinstall the Intel Modem drivers. Make sure that you have downloaded the most recent drivers that you can find, and install those.

This should eliminate your modem problems. I used ME for more than a year with various WinModems and never had even a hiccup once the proper drivers were correctly installed. With EXTREME emphasis on the PROPER drivers and being CORRECTLY installed.
