I've got a friend whose wireless network I set up, using all Linksys components. She has:
-- BEFW11P1 WAP, Cable/DSL Router, and Print Server
-- WPS11 Print Server
-- WPC11 PCI NIC in desktop PC
-- WMP11 PCMCIA NIC in laptop PC
-- WUBS11 USB NIC in desktop PC
She has used the BEFW11P1 to connect to a BEFCMU10 cable modem fo access to the Internet via AOL, which has worked well for over a year. A few days ago, she said that she suddenly couldn't access the Internet. We had just had a good thunderstorm a few days before, so I assumed that the cable line had gotten "zapped". (The cable line was NOT run through a surge suppressor.) I got a second cable modem (BEFCMU10 v 2.0) and swapped it in for the original unit, but there is still no Internet access. I can ping all five of the nodes with no problem, and the printer hung on the BEFW11P1 WAP works fine from all 3 PCs. (The printer on the WPS11 isn't working, but that's a printer problem.)
I didn't reinstall the software/drivers for the updated Cable Modem; I didn't think I would need to.
Does anyone have any hints as to what I can do to verify whether the original cable modem is still functional or not?
