Hello,

Here is my system:

- Old library: STK L180 with HP Ultrium LTO2 drives, TLD controlled,
- New library: STL SL8500 with HP Ultrium LTO3 drives, ACS controlled.

Netbackup 5.1 MP3, 1 master / media server, 2 medias servers.

I have a problem to read LTO2 tapes from my old library with the new one using LTO3 drives.

From the manufacturer, LTO3 is backward compatible with LTO2 reading / writting and with LTO1 reading.

But it's seems to be a netbackup catalog problem.

When I put LTO2 tapes into the new library and do an inventory robot, I got a "Inventory failed: invalid media type (9)" / Unrecognized ACS media type LTO_200G.

In the inventory, LTO2 tapes appear as HCART (instead HCART2).
OK, I can turn the problem with a vmchange -new_mt HCART2 -m <media ID>. But it's not a long term solution: the problem will append again each time I'll put a written LTO2 tape. And I have to change the density parameter in my LTO3 drive from HCART3 to HCART2 in order to read them.

Actually, within my old library, all LTO2 tape has a HCART media Type. So in the catalog, all my old tapes appears as HCART.

Is there a way to change forever the media type of all my old tapes to HCART2 so my new library can read them ?

Or is there a way to set up the LTO3 drives so they can read every format HCART, HCART2, HCART3 without getting an error message ?

Thanks a lot.
