Hi,

I wanted to clear some users (with SAM), and I'm root. My predecessor put a hach sign (#) in front of some users, cause he wasn't sure of deleting 'em. Now I want to delete 'em, all the users which has been renamed to #xxxyyy, but SAM comes back saying he can't remove 'em, an error occured. Personaly I think it's cause the #-sign. Now the question is following: can i just remove the users line in the PASSWD file through VI? Or will I get some problems... (just one thing: the HomeDirectory MUST be kept alive...).

Can I remove users through VI in PASSWD file????

Thnx in advance,

Yes you can vi the password file, but use the vipw command rather than vi.

Thnx alot, I didn't knew VIPW.....
it works well.

Yes you can vi the passwd file. Don't forget to rebuild your map if you are using nis.
