Windows 2000 Srv. Std. SP4.
After replacing the network interface card it takes about 1 minute to see the resource I'm trying to connect to from
a Win XP workstation.
I uninstalled the driver for the old NIC and shut down the server.
Installed the new NIC and booted, the server found the new NIC and installed driver automatically.

I noticed that what was called "Local Area Connection" with the old NIC is now called "Local Area Connection 2".

Any ideas how to correct this problem ?

did you add the DNS, subnet mask, default gateway etc back after you replaced the NIC

Boot into safe mode and delete all NIC instances. Reboot and let Windows discover the new hardware, as it could be some legacy config still in the registry. It does sound however like a DNS issue, do you have any delays when looking up names?

ADB100 is correct, it's hidden in there somewhere. Do a search for both Local Area Connection and Local Area Connection 2 just to see for sure where they both are. That will help. Good luck.

Problem solved !
This was a DNS problem. When I changed the NIC the ip settings automatically used DHCP for the new NIC.
So in my DNS server the server with the new NIC got 3 ip addresses.

So after cleaning up the DNS server browsing the server works normal again.
