Problem starting Xwindows with Mandrake 9.1

I have been running Mandrake 9.0 and have just installed mandrake 9.1. When Xwindows/KDE attempts to start, the screen goes blue and it appears to be attempting to display the KDE splash screen but KDE never completes initialization. I am using the same parameters for my monitor and video card in 9.1 as in 9.0. Any suggestions on how to debug this would be greatly appreciated.

If you can get to a command line you can view the Xfree logs, and probably KDM logs as well. I think the most common location for that is /var/log/*.

The Xfree logs will probably give you a clue as to what is going wrong on initilization.
