Hello !

I got a nasty error on my box. When i try to start CDE i got an error message that says " Unable to start the DT Messaging System .....check that your hostname is proporly set in these files. " The problem is that the only file i got is the /etc/hosts and my hostname is correct there. If i reboot the system then there is no problem the first time i try to start CDE everything works ok. Anyone got a clue ?

Hi,
Did u check the files : /etc/nodename,/etc/hostname.hme0 for the hostname. If u haven't assigned the system name in
the file /etc/nodename then do assign it now.u can also use the command 'uname' to assign nodename with command:-
uname -S <systemname>
I hope this helps.......

Hello !

I've checked the files and everything is alright.
The thing is that this error occured recently on a box that been up an running for ages, well at least 6 months :) And CDE has been working just perfect.

Check to see if there has been a recent change to /bin/login file and if so, see if you can recover it from a restore.
