When I receive a word document which includes images, I only see a blank page where the ojects have been placed by the author. If I 'edit' the picture, I can see it, when I then 'save and return to doct' I can goto 'edit>pictureobject>convert and by ticking the 'float over text' box I can then return and see the picture as I ought.
This happens on every such doument, not just the odd one - any suggestions (If DREAMBOAT is there,it seems similar to FAQ thread68-34545)

Well, hello, Doug! You can email me too, ya know!

Several things:

1. Read Article III and take the steps under Periodic Hard Drive Maintenance at
2. Make sure you are in page (97) or print (2K) layout view.

3. Tools-Options-View, drawing objects is checked.

4. If Office 97, you should have SR2 installed.

Let me know...

Thank you -but....
I followed your advice, but no improvement ...
However, The PC is Windows NT it has SR2 and somenoe at work suggested I let them log on and ...the problem did not occur for them. The brains here say therefore its something to do with my profile. Do you know if this can be remedied?

This has a pretty simple solution. Microsoft Word has an oddity, which I discovered while writing technical documentation that used screen captures. The pictures disappear when you view them in Normal View. To see them, select View from the menu bar and click on Print Layout. You should be able to see all the pictures in the document. :)

Thanks but.....
None of the View menu options (Normal, online, page or outline) alter the non-appearance of the image.
Agreed, if I goto <print preview> I can see the image, but this has always been the case.
I still have the problem

Ok, Doug. What happens if you cut the picture and hit Edit-Paste special-As a picture? Save the file to a new name if necessary.

The problem is solved by 'DREAMBOAT'as follows
All I can say to try at this point is to log in as the proper user (yourself, I believe), then (with Word closed) rename the following registry key (assuming Office 97) to something like OldWord and relaunch Word:

hkey_current_user\software\microsoft\office\8.0\word

If you haven't been in the registry, better find someone who has or I'll have to send explicit instructions.

Good luck!
