I have a problem when I want to save a excel file from an NT 4.0 WS ( Servicepack 6a ) to a NT 4.0 Server ( Servicepack 5 ). Mostly the second time I want to save it Excel says there is not enough memory and that it cannot save the file. But it saves the file, Excel dies and you have to restart the computer. To stop and start Excel helps nothing. This problem doesn´t occure in the same network from Win95 and Win98 WS, but the same problem is under W2K.
I have also the problem when I´m logged on as domainadmin. Office 97 is with SP2.

This is extremely common. I don't know if any of the following suggest it, but I know that the problem can occur when the network is not "refreshed" often enough. But I'm not a network person, so although I kind of understand wha that means, I really have no clue what it entails or how to do it.

Anyway, knowing this is common, I went to MS Technet and found the following articles when I put Excel 97 as the product and "cannot save" (without the quotes) as the keywords.

Hope it helps. See my FAQ on recovering Office files if you've REALLY lost any. Sometimes, tho, they appear corrupt and you open them the next day and they're fine.

Thanks a lot to dreamboat !

It was a lot of information and lead me to the real problem, it was the virusscan. I turned off the scanning for *.xl* as a workaround, but it works.
