I have a shortcut to a Crystal Report on the Desktop. I double click it and get a message like "can't run unless program is installed", that's not it exactly but close. If I go to windows explorer and find the crw32.exe file in the Seagate Software directory and click it Crystal Report runs, it IS installed. So I right clicked on the crw32.exe file and created a shortcut on my desktop. Now if I drag and drop the shortcut to my Crystal Report on top of it, it will open and run my program. What is wrong, I don't want to have to do this all the time to run reports. What do I need to do in order to just run the reports from a shortcut? I am a network user in the computers "Administrator" group.

Right click on the Crystal Report file on your Desktop, and then select Open With, and Choose Program. Now click Browse and find CRW32.EXE and tick "Always use the selecteed program...".

Hopefully that'll do it for any other Crystal Reports that you deposit on the Desktop which have the same file extension.

I tried that also, with the same resulting error message?

Hi,
Check to be sure the shortcut has the correct location set in the 'Start In' setting. It must be the same as the crw32.exe file, assuming a standard install ( which CR version,by the way?)

The "'Start In' setting" was pointing to where the file was (on the network). So I changed it to go to C:\Program files....crw32.exe, and still no go?

If you click on C:\Program files....crw32.exe does that start your program?

If it does if you create s Shortcut and place the Shortcut in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs, and click on that Shortcut in that location does it open your program?

And if that does, do you get that same Shortcut in Start Button/ All Programs as a normally working Shortcut?

Something else you could try is this.

Use the Vista instructions in this to reset to default the security settings.

How do I restore security settings to the default settings?

Have you tried creating another local user and see if they have the same problem?

Is uninstalling and reinstalling an option, or taking any repair option if offered when doing any uninstall?

Check the permissions on the /TEMP folder, as well as on the folder where the CRW32.EXE file is located at...

also check your Internet Explorer's PopUp Blocker...

and if you have any toolbars installed, then I suggest you either set them up properly (some have PopUp blocking capabilities) or uninstall them...
