Hi,
I am getting an Application Error which says "User Class either missing or Invalid". I am using Series 7.0 suit. I have tried solving this by embedding username and password in the catalog. But its not working. Client IMR (in reportset/apps folder on server) works fine but on running IWR it pops up the error. I am running some reports of the same nature (on access databases-stored locally on the server itself)and they are running fine.
*I am using system DSNs for each reportset.
*The access database used for the problem report doesnot require any username and password to connect to.
It has become annoying for me. Will appreciate immidiate help.

Thanks.
Cogprog.

Hi Cogprog - Did you ever find a solution to this problem. I am getting the same error connecting to an excel database.

Thanks

Are you using Cognos Upfront, or directly accessing IWR?
Also, have you set the report set in Server Admin to run using a specified userclass such as Creator, or are you using database signons?

I am accessing the report through upfront. I have specified to run using the Creator userclass. The database is an excel file with no signon there was no signon to setup.

Let me know if you need more info.

Instead of typing a book here, I would suggest you go to the Cognos Knowledgebase at and do a search on "missing or invalid" and selecting IWR and Upfront. This will bring up a variety of articles any one of which could be causing the problem you're encountering.

Thanks DoubleD -

I've actually looked at the Knowledgebase and none of the suggestions fixed my error.

slaforce,
Have you tried feeding it a dummy userid and password in the catalog? Also, have you run the report from an Impserver session instead of Impromptu on the server? Sometimes Impserver will provide you with a different error message.

I have not tried feeding it a dummy userid or password in the catalog. I have it setup so it doesn't prompt me for userid or password. This works fine in Impromptu - just not IWR. Can you explain what you mean by running an Impserver session instead of on the server. The server is a Unix box.

Running IWR on Unix definitely adds a level of complexity. I'm not real familiar with this, but you would have to do something like setting up an Xsession (out of a product like Exceed) to open a GUI to Unix, then launch Impserver which is the actual program that IWR uses to run reports. Again, I have not done this before, but after setting it up once, it would probably help you troubleshoot in the future. For some reason, Impserver does not necessarily act the same as Impromptu. Sorry I can't be more specific as to the how's. Good luck!
