We are a new Commvault install last week installed on Dell PowerEdge610 blades with an EMC Clarion sans. I have Simpana v8 installed on 8 AIX servers and 10 windows servers. Total of 4 media agents - 0-for dedup only, 1 & 2 for windows and unix backups, 3 for exchange. I tested the backups running from MA-1 for the first night, but I noticed that there was contention with the Windows backup. The windows analyst has about 10 windows backups kicking off at 18:13. The unix backups run at specific times (1700, 1800, 2000, 2200, etc). The first night(Wednesday) of scheduled backups, I noticed a few of my backups that should only run 30 minutes, ran for over 3 hours due to having to wait for the windows backups, so I moved the unix backups to MA-2. Thursday night, some backups are running on MA-1 some on MA2, at around 1815 some of our servers (not ones being backed up) were unreachable. They were not down, but something with the backup processes was making certain servers un-pingable. this cleared up around 2100, the network team did not see anyting on there The backups all ran fine. At 7am, when another of the unix backups kicked off, again we noticed a network slowness, but the backup ended by 0720 and everything cleared up. Same thing happened again Friday night at around 1815. We've had dell, nortel, and commvault all on a conf call troubleshooting, but no solutions. So last night we ran just the Unix bkps on MA-2, all ran fine except the 7am one again with some other servers having network issues because of this backup. Is there anything else I could look at to see there the trouble may be? I asked to have the server I run at 7am run on a different MA, am waiting to hear if I'm going to be allowed to do this though.
