We have five filesystems in our secondary hard disk in the Unixware 7.1.1 server. We need to remove one 10GB filesystem and create two filesystems of 5GB each. If we use the diskadd utility , it will overwrite the entire disk resulting in the loss of data in other filesystems too.

Is there any way that we can remove this filesystem and re-create two others (within the same space)without disturbing the other filesystems in a hard disk ?

Can anyone help in soting out this problem ?

Thanks In Advance

In OpenServer I use 'divvy' to handle this quite frequently. I am sorry I am not fluent in UnixWare, but a quick search yielded a command map between systems.

I suggest researching these commands thoroughly before jumping in, again, I'm not fluent in UW so cannot comment if these are what you need or not, just trying to offer suggestions.

disksetup
prtvtoc
edtvtoc

Just a quick reading on my suggests staying away from 'disksetup' and using 'prtbtoc' to print current disk slice configuration, and use 'edtvtoc' to edit existing disk slices.

'man edtvtoc' even steps through what you describe.

good luck. (you do have backups, right? ::) )
