Hi

I installed windows XP after red hat linux 9 and he gently erase all the boot sector of my linux. So I boot whit the CD with linux rescue and type in lilo put he send me tha message "Fatal: open /dev/hdb1/ : not a directory@ (hdb1 is my linux hard drive. Could I get help plz ????

Personally, I'd opt for the floppy bootdisk. It's safe from Windows :)

Using an installation CD, and I learned this from my Redhat 6.x days, take the install CD, put it in, fire up the box. At the boot: prompt, put something like this (you will have to adjust for your specific setup):

Code:
linux root=/dev/hda1 initrd=

Change the root= to whatever you need (looks like maybe hdb1 or close). That way, it will use the kernel on the CD, use the / you have on a local hard drive, and won't load an initrd and start the installation process
