Hello,
I have a RH9 server running Sendmail, which has been working fine for over 12 months, recently the ISP that we are using decided to block port 25 on our system. I have been able to bypass their block by sending all outgoing mail through their SMTP server. Tested and working, I can sucessfully send mail..

Ok here is the problem, i can send myself mail eg from 'root' to 'admin' and i can fetch the mail on a client Eg, Outlook. But when I try and send an e-mail to my server from an external site, it error's and says:-

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE.

Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed.

if I send it from another linux machine the remote end maillog states:-

Feb 12 19:59:56 server1 sendmail[7749]: k1C3g3Mg006973: to=<admin@XXXXX.XXXX.XXXX.XX>, ctladdr=<root@server1.XXXX.XXX.XX> (0/0), delay=05:17:53, xdelay=00:02:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=660367, relay=mail.XXXX.XXX.XX [58.XXX.XXX.40], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out with mail.XXXX.XXX.XX.

I have tested my pop connection on port 110, using telnet from a remote address and can successfully recieve a response from the pop server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just as a sub note, e-mail was working fine up until the day ISP put block on port 25, but the haven't blocked port 110 as i can connect to other pop server's and recieve e-mail from them.

Regards
Aidan C

The availability of POP services has nothing to do with sending mail... it sounds like your ISP has blocked port 25 inbound, as well as outbound. If you want to continue running a mail server, you either must get your ISP to agree to open port 25 for you (this is probably as likely as the heat death of the universe taking place in the next twnety minutes) or use a relay service.

See for an example of what I'm talking about.
