Problem opening Publisher 2000

I recently upgraded a user from windows 98 (2nd edition) with office 97 installed to windows 2000 professional with office 2000.
Apparently, after the upgrade and installation of office 2000 (2cds), the user was unable to open up publisher 2000.
Whenever she tried to open up publisher, the wizard box opens up. When tries to close the wizard box, the following error message appears:
(Unsaved Publication) - Microsoft Publisher: MSPUB.EXE - Application Error
The instruction at "0x77fcb032" referenced memory at "0x005c0032". The memory could not be "written".
Click OK to terminate the program.

When you click on OK, publisher closes out.

When I boot the pc up in safe mode, publisher opens up without any problems and without any error messages.
If anyone has run into the same problem and has a resolution, please HELP!!!

I am having the same problems when I moved one of my users running Win98Se/Office 97 to Windows 2000/Office 2000. Did you have any luck in troubleshooting the problem ?

I have had this problem as well. In my case a Publisher 2000 installation on Win2000 worked for several months, and then started coming up with this error.

First I uninstalled everything installed since Publisher worked OK. This didn't work.

Then I used the Office disk 2 repair feature. This didn't work either.

The I used the Office disk 1 repair feature. While it was ruinning I became impatient and tried Publisher again. It worked!

After the repair was complete it didn't work again. At this point I'm thinking of buying scissors and tape.

Then I tried something stupid. I re-ran the office disk 1 repair, kept trying Publisher until it worked again, and as soon as it did, I cancelled the repair process. This was during the 'installing Office' stage.

Now it works fine again.
