problem opening images

I have just installed Photoshop 7 on an XP machine. All the image file associations are now set to Photoshop (which is what I want) but when I double click an image photoshop opens but does not display the image.

I've tried re-installing but this hasn't helped.

if i use file > open within photoshop the images display fine.

does anyone know what is going wrong as i am new to photoshop.

Explorer---Tools---Folder Options--[FileTypes] and duoble check the association with the files (open-new etc.) NOT the association that Adobe makes on the install...this would be (I guess) a manual way of associtaing files ...
