Problem opening files in Flash

Hi,

I currently have Macromedia Flash MX 2004, and I just can't seem to open any files, I presume the Macromedia software can handle files created in older versions? But everytime I try to open a file I get "Unexpected file format" I am not sure if it is my installation, because i installed Macromedia Studio MX 2004, and i have the same problem with opening PNG files in fireworks.

I would be very greatfull for any assistance that may be provided

You're not the only one whose had this problem. I've experienced it myself, but only with the odd Flash 5 file. It makes no sense. If you can't open any of them you might want to try a reinstall. It seems that mx2004 is full of bugs...but when it works, it's pretty damn cool!!
