This looks like a virus to me, but I can't seem to find any info on it.

OS and Excel are XP.

When opening the file, the user gets a message that the file is not found and shows a path starting with the drive letter and then the next folder or word with ".xls" after.

When the user clicks "OK" the message repeats but adds the next folder or word to the "path" and makes the next folder or word the ".xls".

If the user keeps clicking OK they will eventually get to the actual excel file. I've looked in these files and I do not see any new macros.

This seems to be related to the actual files, the same user can open other excel files with no problems.

Does anyone know what this is and how to fix it?

Thank you
V

Yes, that is exactly what it is doing.

I checked the folder settings, and like the poster in that thread this machine was also set to "always use"

However, a setting was receintly changed to make sure that links to excel files open in excel rather than IE.

OK, the fix was to delete the file association and recreate it :)
