problem opening attachemt in intranet site using ie6

yes sure attachment is there in .xls format having ms office2007 installed on system.
this attachment is there on intranet site end user need to open this attachment.
when opens this attachment it opens in in something like .xml code.
please assist on this......
also i tried to open this with mozilla and it works fine there so this is for sure problem is there only with internet explorer

If you save the attachment to the desktop can you open it directly?
Also when you open it with Mozilla is that on the same persons computer?
It sounds like an association issue to me.

yes i can open that but it suppose to open in excel form but it opens in something html code but when i try same with mozilla firefox it works fine it opens directly in excel form
could anyone please assist furthur if it is assosiation issue what you want me do to overcome that as i want that file to open with internet explore not with mozilla

Is it really an .xls file type or is .xlsx?
The default Office 2007 file formats are not compatible with previous versions. If you're trying to open an xlsx file with an older version of excel, you need the Office Compatibility Pack
