PROBLEM NIC ON HOME NETWORK

Two PCs on W98, one (Duron 800) connected by DSL to internet, connected together by 10/100 cards and crossover cable.

Card on Pentium 133 installed OK, and settings all seem to be OK. Have TCP/IP, Netbeui and IPX in place (suspenders and belt) until I get it working.

Ping shows no result. Diagnostic tells me there are IRQ and I/O fails. IRQ is set to 10, no conflicts, and 'can't be changed'

The computer does not show up in its own NetworkNeighbourhood screen (although it did once - then failed to reappear despite no changes).

Had the same problem with previous NIC - I assumed it was faulty and replaced it. The PC was previously networked OK under w95

So....doesn't seem to be the card itself. It isn't the cable. As far as I can see, all settings are the same on both (and are correct). There are no IRQ conflicts - so preume an I/O conflict (but can't see one).

What next? Any ideas welcome.

I solved my own problem!! (with the help of something I saw in another answer).

I went to FileSharing on both and set LM Announce to "yes". And lo and behold, they both appeared.

try this, install WinProxy on the Duron 800, set the tcp/ip settings to obtain ip adderss automatically and 'bam!!', DSL on both computers! I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.

set ip adeess to obtain automatically on the p133, and choose an ip for the LAN nic on the duron
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every moment of it.
