I have a Sidekick 95 (aka version 2.0, I believe) problem.

The person I'm working for is still using Sidekick. His machine had other problems and needed to be wiped. I backed up this persons entire C drive. Before that, and from within Sidekick, I checked to see the path of where his personal files were being stored so that I was sure I would get them.

His version of Sidekick was the bundled-from-within-Corel-Suite one, so the path to his userdata directory was

c:\corel\programs(?)\sidekick\userdata

There was obviously some other attempt at some point to install Sidekick so there was also a ..

c:\SKW2\userdata

.. directory.

NOW..

I installed Sidekick 2.0 from disk on a new machine, copied the userdata files (from the corel userdata dir) and voila: Some *really old version of someone who used to work here's contacts* show up. I checked the dates on the .SDB files and sure enough, they're from 1997. But there are no other .SDB files (or any of the other Sidekick specific extensions) anywhere else on the machine.

In the same corel /userdata directory were hundreds of .TMP files with *RECENT* date modified dates, basically one a day being created. The readme.txt file explains that these are temp calendar files. The person tells me that he'd never used the calendar, only the cardfiles. (The c:\SKW2\userdata directory is obviously unused, although i've opened those .SBD files too, and *nada*)

Since it's obvious that this is the userdata file that was being accessed based on the fact that .TMP files were being created in its directory at the rate of two a day (probably each time the app started up), how does it follow that the cardfiles in that same directory are all old?

Where the hell else could they all be?? There were NO other .SDB files on the entire laptop (besides the ones previously mentioned in the obviously unused SKW2\userdata directory).

Btw, the laptop that these files originally sat on was wiped, so trying to recreate the problem on the original laptop isn't a reality.

I just purchased corel wordperfect 7 suite on ebay so that I can recreate the problem in the exact same environment, but I've no idea if that's going to work or not.

Anyway, any suggestions are extremely appreciated.

Btw, this is what one of the .TMP files looks like when opened in notepad:

Dear kady,
If you don't have any more ####.sdb files in your backup you don't have your cardfiles!
Sorry but that is the straightforward answer.
