After adding the device via the wsm console, I try to configure the device on the partition. Here is what I did:

# cfgmgr
# lsslot -c slot
# Slot Description Device(s)
U7879.001.DQD08UA-P1-C1 Logical I/O Slot pci23 fcs3
U7879.001.DQD02B6-P1-C2 Logical I/O Slot pci11 fcs1
U7879.001.DQD08UA-P1-C2 Logical I/O Slot pci25 ent4 ent5
U7879.001.DQD08UA-P1-T15 Logical I/O Slot pci24 ide0
U9117.570.10C677D-V1-C0 Virtual I/O Slot Unknown
# mkdev -c cdrom -s ide -t dvdram -p ide0 -d -w 0
cd0 Defined
# mkdev -l cd0
Method error (/usr/lib/methods/cfgidecdrom):
0514-049 Error getting VPD for a device.

Any idea pse?
Thanks!

On what hardware? An IDE dvdram makes me guess p5, which needs at least 5200-04, but 5200-05 is better. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but IDE device driver was pretty lame in 5200-04 - we went to 5200-05 when it became available...

You may have to reboot your partition in order to get the dvdram working...

HTH,

if you're trying to dynamicaly reassign a cd that's been part of another lpar, make sure when you did the rmdev on the cd and the adapter, that you also rmdev'd the slot that the adapter's in, because if you didn't, and the other lpar's still up, AIX will still have the CD busy and you can't reassign it.

If you didn't rmdev the slot, then go back to the original lpar, run cfgmgr to put the adapter and cd back online then run lsdev to find out the parent slot of the adapter. rmdev with -R for recursive on the slot then you can reassign and run cfgmgr successfuly on the new lpar

If you're NOT trying to dynamicaly reallocate, have you been able to get the cd to show up on any lpar at any time with cfgmgr?
