Tried logging onto my server from a workstation after a rebuild, and it would not let me logon even after my user account had already been created. I logon locally with administrator and I can see the server and it's shares, but cannot logon with my domain user account. the following is the error I see:
"the system cannot log you on this domain because the system's computer account in it's primary domain is missing or the password on that account is incorrect".

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Did you try typing the password or username both in CAPS? Sometimes this gets users. James Collins

Make sure that your computer has an account on the PDC (Go through Server Manager). If your workstation was already part of the domain before you rebuilt the PDC then you have to add it to the domain again because this is a new domain, even thought the name is the same. If it does have an account...try taking it off the domain, and then adding it again (from the client side).

I have tried re-adding the workstation to the domain and that's when the error started occuring. I have already added the user account to the domain as well.

Have you tried going to domain controller - server manager - delete machine name of offending PC... resync domain by selecting PDC (if have any BDCs) in server manager and menu option request sync of domain controllers.

Go to workstation... log in locally as an administrator on that machine (not domain)...

Remove machine from Domain in Network setup... reboot PC.

Log in again locally and this time go to network and select to log on to domain. Tick the create machine account box and use the username/password of the domain admin.

Do you get a welcome to domain notification on the workstation?

If you have a BDCs in place then go back to the PDC and resync the domain controllers so all machine security info is forced to be copied.

Now try logging in as user back on the workstation.

If this still doesn't work check the following:

do you limit users to specific workstations - as setup in user manager on domain controllers... if so is this setup correctly for the name of the machine you're logging into?

can the offending user account be used succesfully on any other workstation in your domain?

(OR)

can an other working user account logon successfully on the offending workstation?
