Hi - I'm reinstalling XP Pro after switching HDs. I created a boot disk from my HD installation CD and it gives me a Dos type prompt X:launch> which I don't know what to do with.

The CD installer doesn't seem to do anything when I click install and then put in the Window XP Pro disk.

I thought I formatted the HD but maybe not. Could someone run thru "the steps" for me? I must be missing something.

Thanks a bunch.

Reset the boot sequence in the bios to put your CD-ROM or DVD drive first. Put the Win installation CD in that drive, and boot. It should go into the Windows installation routine.

You don't need the boot disk you created, set the bios to boot from CD and start-up with the Windows CD. Part of the install may ask yopu if you want to format the drive. I would, just to be sure the floppy didn't mess anything up. One little glitch can mess up an install of XP - so play it safe!

NO NEED FOR BOOT FLOPPY.
Press delete button (F1 or F2) depending on motherboard to
enter bios
Usually the second screen in the bios gives you the "BOOT ORDER" set first device to CDrom.
Save and restart with XP disc in a CDrom drive.
Press any button when prompted "boot from CDrom"
F8 "agree"
New installation of XP not repair
I would delete and remake the partition/partitions (follow onscreen instructions)
Quick format NTFS (prefered)
XP starts copying files and installing.
