Hi all,

I am completely new to Crystal reports. I am having troubles to link two dbf tables so as to have results in a common report. The two tables have from the application I am using indexes. I am using the index for the 2nd table, and link one of the field of the first table to one field of the second table which is included in the index (there is a green sign next to it. However it does not seem to work?

Any help what is the correct way of doing that??
Tks
Joseph

When you say "it does not seem to work", what makes you say that? Is it linking, but returning unexpected results? Is
it giving you an error or warning message?

Do you have "smart linking" turned on?

Also, using the field explorer, please look up the data types and sizes of the fields in question, and post them in this forum here along with the field names.

Thank you for your quick reply. There is no error message, however it shows only empty fields where it should show fields from the 2nd table. Smart linking it is on, should I disable it?

The two fields I am trying to connect are both Type Numeric,Length 8, Dec 0. The field names are Nummer and Gastnr.

Do u thing might be useful if I sent you the two tables?

tks again,
Joseph

Joseph,

Yes, please send me your report and the tables if you can. Since they are .dbf files this should be easy. Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

When you say that the field is *included* in the index, is it the only field included?

xBase can build compound indexes (Btrieve like), but when you use them, I seem to recall you must use them for the EXACT combination as when built, not just part of them.

Meaning that if you're using Foxpro, and you type set exact on, and then do a seek 'Bob" expecting to find the record with the compound index of first + last (BobSmith), you won't get a find.

If this describes your situation, try either linking all of the fields in the index, building a single bitmap index for just the linked field, or turm off the indexes.

Might fix it. (My Fox is a bit rusty, but I think the theory is right).

How do you "turn off" indexes in crystal? Software Support for Macola, Crystal Reports and Goldmine

dgillz:

Depends on the database, I think, can't recall how xBase works with these, but I think it's a more likely candidate than many.

Report Options:
Use Indexes or Server for Speed

You can also check (and select) the index in use through the Link Options, which will also tell you the columns used in the index.

The green indicator was what made me think it an option.
