I have a problem where my PC is selective about the Paradox tables it will link to an Access database I'm trying to create.
I'm using Access 97 on a Windows 2000 OS
I can link to most of the Paradox tables that are available to me, but two tables I need give an error message when I try to link to them. This message is;
"Unexpected error from external database driver (26300)."
and clicking on the help option gives;
"The specified external database driver returned an error. This error can be caused by performing an operation not supported on this type of external database."
My IT support department have suggested that I don't have the correct Access ODBC driver setups, but as I can say I can link to numerous other tables - all of which link to the tables causing problems when using them within Paradox.
They suggested I try upgrading my database driver registry files using (J30isam.reg, J35isam.reg, Pdx30.reg, Pdx35.reg). When I did this the error massage changed to;
"Couldn't find installable ISAM. (Error 3170)"
I was then told I was probably missing the MDCA and told to run mdac_type.exe
It was at this point I stopped being able to link to ANY paradox files that had previously been OK. I was then told to download the link
<<
but this didn't help. I then re-ran Microsfot Office setup to put my system back how it was.
My IT departments final gambit was that the 2 tables causing me problems were corrupt and that there was a problem with the .idx tables associated to them.
A month ago they said they'd rebuild the offending tables and if this didn't work they'd look into other possibilities. No joy. We're lost, please help.
