Hi,
I have a strange problem in Access 2003. I found there are couple of us in the office have the same problem that when we try to link tables from the ODBC, the Pop up window won't show up, it seems like Access stops working at that point. However, when I tried to re-link the tables that are already in the database, it lets me do it. Any experts have any ideas what cause the problem and how can I fix it?

Here is the step and I think it is very straight forward,

1) File -> Get External Data -> Link tables ->
2) Under File of type -> Click the Arrow button and hightlight ODBC, **It stops there and there is no futher step I can go.
3) If it works, just pick the Select Data Source, I only go to SQL Server and pick the tables.

I uninstalled the Profession Office 2003 and reinstalled it but it didn't work. Then I tried to use the cd to repair it but again it still didn't work.

Can anyone help me with this strange issue?

Thank you.

Two thoughts...

Make sure Office is fully patched.

Secondly, assuming you are connecting to SQL server, find the latest MDAC and install it and test.

I hope one of those guesses works.

Hi Lameid,

Thanks for your quick replied. I checked all updated, patched and MDAC.
Guess what, I found it is because the Norton AntiVirus. When I unchecked the "Turn Office Plug-in On", everything works no problem. I hope it will help someone if s/he has the same problem.
Anyhow, thanks for your replied.
