Hi

I have been trying to install Visual Basic on my XP Home laptop without success. It gets as far as 'setup is searching for installed components' and then stays there. I have to use task manager to end task it as it says it's not responding.

I have tried allowing all through the firewall, plus disabling my anti-virus. Perhaps a required service is disabled on my machine, or a component is missing?

Does anyone have any ideas please?

Thanks

Are you installing while logged on as an administrator?

I used to rock and roll every night and party every day. Then it was every other day. Now I'm lucky if I can find 30 minutes a week in which to get funky. - Homer Simpson

Yes I am logging in as an administrator, sorry - forget to mention that ;)

if you go to "add or remove programs" is it located there as being installed? if it is, see if you can remove it and then re-install.

Have you ran a spyware sweek on your computer? Also if you have any anti-spyware software you may need to disable that as well.

Hi

Thanks for all the replies. It is not showing up on the add/remove list. I also don't have anti-spyware running as I use Adaware that has to be run manually.

I have read somewhere there might be an incompatibility issue with SP2 but I couldn't find any helpful suggestions about this.

Any other ideas?

I have never heard of any incompatability.

I am not here to endorse anti-spyware but I have used adaware before and it would still leave spyware - especially the more malicous stuff. I then installed Microsofts rendition of anti-spyware and it found and fixed a ton of spyware that adaware didn't....

I am not insisiting that this is your problem but it still does remain a possibility, at least in my mind.

Ok I won't discount the problem of spyware, though, touch wood, I've never been troubled by spyware, viruses or anything. I'm also up to date with the Microsoft updates. I will try and investigate my machine further for anything that shouldn't be there. Thanks.

I am also having this same problem - please could you let me know if you managed to solve it and what your solution was? Thanks in advance.
