Running configure yields: "checking fo gcc...no
checking for cc.. no"
config.log: configure:814: checking for gcc
configure:844: checking for cc
Does this mean there is no compiler? If so, where can I get one? Thanks

Thanks Lee. The Samba version is the "latest" 2.2.8a. I'm going to download and install the compiler from gcc.gnu.org.

ftp://ftp2.caldera.com/pub/skunkware/osr5/vols/

you can download the binaries from here and install with scoadmin

I downloaded the binaries and installed them on OpenServer 5.0.6 and returned to begin the Samba install and got the following message in config.log at execution of "configure":

This file contains any messages produced by compilers while
running configure, to aid debugging if configure makes a mistake.

configure:814: checking for gcc
configure:927: checking whether the C compiler (gcc -O ) works
configure:943: gcc -o conftest -O conftest.c 1>&5
Undefined first referenced
symbol in file
_fini /usr/ccs/lib/crt1.o
ERROR: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to conftest
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure: failed program was:

#line 938 "configure"
#include "confdefs.h"

main(){return(0);}

What's missing? I appreciate any help I can get! Thanks!

if you installed the binaries then you do not need to compile it....

once binaries are installed,
include /usr/local/bin or /usr/local/samba/bin in your path
modify /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf to your tastes.
