problem in using execute query with item level when validate trigger

when using execute_query on block with when_validate_item trigger at item level it does not work properly
can anybody suggest how to use both in same block also unable 2 use prameter query i mean i want to pass a parameter to a field and then depending on that parameter valu i want to execute query and fetch the record.
it gives me an option of pressing F8 key to execute query but i dont wanna do that instead i want to use buttons for that. Please reply at your earliest.thanx in adv.
