problem in sybase installation

after installation of sybase finishing successfully & during configuration of the data device & log device in the steps belows


IF have two 36G or two 72G harddisks, use the following command:
1> disk init name = "data_dev", physname = "/dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s5",
vdevno = 3, size = 5800000 (equal to 5800000*2K, about 11G)
2> go


the results is

DISK INIT encountered on error while attempting to open/creat the physical file please consult the SQL server
error log line the SQL server boot directory for more details.

any one have an idea about the above problem we will wait your answer thankx
 
As you are using raw devices check that async I/O is on and also check the permissions/ownership of the /dev/rdsk/c????? files. Sybase needs permissions privileges or ownership of the devices so it can write to them. Hope this helps.
