Hi Group,

The Sun w/s's <workstation 1> and <workstation 2> are not allowing me to login. While telnetting from HP <workstation> which I'm currently able to access, the Sun machines just hang at this stage:

-----
login: username
Password:
Last login: Mon Jun 16 10:38:23 from
Sun Microsystems
------

It takes long time to login.

What could be the reason to take long time to login to the machine? What could be done to resolve this issue?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Regards,
VR

Does it not allow you to log in at all, or just take a very long time?

If you're eventually getting in but it pauses a long time between displaying the OS banner and the login prompt it is probably a problem with DNS reverse lookup. Putting your HP IP address into /etc/hosts will fix this - or alternatively put it into DNS and ensure it has a reverse lookup record.

...or find out why your DNS server is taking so long to say "no, I don't recognise that IP address!"
