I've been given a couple of illustrator files that are traces of raster files. I need to import them into AutoCAD so that I can work with them. I had the guy who created them save them as DXF files and I can open them in AutoCAD, however the geometry is scaled by a really odd and large factor (43.983752). I can rescale, but it doesn’t look right, and I’d like to know why it isn’t importing with the proper scale to begin with. Does any have any experience with importing Illustrator DXF files into AutoCAD?

FWIW the files were created in Illustrator 10, and I’m using AutoCAD 2003.

Thanks

Hi micr0,

Scaling DXF files is usually a problem on the DXF creation side. Some program use the screen information instead of the actual geometry sizes, so if it's possible (I'm not familiar with Illustrator) have your operator zoom to a known or certain percentage of full size. Sometimes the routines use print settings, so if the first part doesn't work, try changing the default printer setup or the page setup.
