Hi all i have an assembled PC .It is not branded computer. It has like 2 hard drive beside its original drive. It was running initially windows 2000 pro so my friend ask me to add windows xp for him. I went and installed xp home edition for him and every thing went well. (Two OS on one PC)

But when i start the computer on xp i do not get any sound!! I can not play any film and i can not play any music. It gives me error that sound mixer is missing !! The problem is that i do not have the drivers cds with me and i do not know where to get them. i even do not know what software to look for ? Could an expert tell me how i can fix this sound problem? I even went to device manger i got some yellow question marks next to some devices but it did not give me the name of missing rivers!!

Furthermore, xp home edition could not detect one of the drives which is named E? I be happy if an expert help me with these two problem. The PC works well when i start it with windows 2000 pro. Thanks

As for the drivers , look on the motherboard and find the make and model of it then go to there site. They will have the drivers there. If its not detecting, try going to add new hardware and selecting the device from there. Let us know if this helps.

If the sound is onboard the motherboard, electronicsfreak's suggestion should help you find driver's for it.

Otherwise you need to find what sort of soundcard, and then visit manufacturer's site for drivers. Belarc advisor - will probably give you this info (will probably give mobo info too).

On the missing drive - check in disk management (run diskmgmt.msc). XP may not have assigned a drive letter to the missing drive. If that is the case it will appear in disk management without a letter - and you can then assign one (right click on the drive, and select 'change drive letter and paths' option). Note - you are sure its not already there under a different drive letter? Just because its E: in 2k, doesn't mean it will be E: in XP.
