We use a hyperterminal dialup session to support a client where a modem is directly connected to a HP-UX server. For the past week, without anyone changing settings on either side, I can connect, but gets disconnected after 3 seconds. What could be possible causes for this and which settings can be checked on the HP-UX server?

Thank you

hi,

is your modem directly connected to a serial port or off an MDP port ?

you can check your speed of the port and speed the modem is set to ?

Which device are you using i.e. dial in , dialin +out or
dial out only. if you look in sam peripherals it will show you.

Try powering the modem off , disconnecting serial cable from server end and modem end , and leaving it for about 10 seconds , reconnect everything and retry .

Do you have a dtr light on on the modem ?

you can also try lowering the speed of the serial port and trying a re-connect.

We're dialing into the server standing onsite with them and is going there on Friday to check all settings. The modem is usually switched off for security reasons and we'd phone them first to switch it on prior to dialling in. At this stage the only info I have on the modem is that it is connected to the serial port. Below a saved ioscan output I've got from the machine.

tty 0 0/0/4/0 asio0 CLAIMED INTERFACE PCI Serial (103c1048)
/dev/GSPdiag1 /dev/diag/mux0 /dev/tty0p1
/dev/cua0p2 /dev/mux0 /dev/tty0p2
/dev/cul0p2 /dev/tty0p0 /dev/ttyd0p2
tty 1 0/0/5/0 asio0 CLAIMED INTERFACE PCI Serial (103c1048)
/dev/GSPdiag2 /dev/mux1
/dev/diag/mux1 /dev/tty1p1

Thanks for the help
