Hello,

I am dialing into a meridian switch. My terminal software is set to 9600,8,n,1,xon/xoff. The final connection is on an extension so the terminal software is configured with the main phone number plus some commas then the extension.

I get an answer at the extension. You can hear the connectivity and then the response is either "connect 28800" or "connect 26400". When I press enter there are only circle characters that appear. Why am I not getting connected at 9600?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

the connected at speed does not affect end to end.. are you using procomm.. if so go to view and check quick select line.. now after you dial in try 7 even and one or 7 space and one.. your baud is right, i usually run vt 320 emulation

Thanks John for your quick response....

My apologies .. I should have mentioned that I was trying to connect using the internal modem of my laptop.. I gave in found an external US Robotics, configured the default dip switches and managed to get connected properly.

Not sure how to do it, but any tweaks I could make to the internal modem just did not work.

Again.. many thanks... sorry I wasn't clearer from the top.
