Hey Everyone...

Got a strange one here. I am trying to demote a W2K DC. When running through DCPromo, I get the following error:

Active Directory Installation Failed. The operation failed because: The attempt to configure the machine account W2K_4$ on server w2k_1.sensoft.ca failed. "The parameter is incorrect."

Now communication between the DCs is fine. DNS is running fine. Here's the strange thing I found. In ADUC, within the Domain Controllers OU, the server W2K_4 is listed as W2K_4?CNF:1c8c96c6-9724-431e-98fd-72388d61d032. All other DCs are listed with their correct names.

I have a feeling that the way the computer name is listed in ADUC is what is causing my problem. Anyone know how to fix this so the correct computer name is displayed?

Thanks,

Vinod
